A special guest blog from an American Expat, about her visit to the Gjin Aleksi Mosque, with Tea Tours.
This 15th century mosque is located in the quaint village of Rusan, just outside Delvinë, Albania.
The Mosque is a noted Cultural Monument of Albania, and a truly magnificent building to view. The steps in walking up to the gate, to enter the site of the Mosque itself, are roughly hewn and thick, which makes you take notice for a moment, to wonder about the masons in the time frame, when the Mosque was brought to life.
Just outside the Mosque, you will find many beautiful flowers and herbs, to take delight in. And, for me I also found a few local children, enjoying the scenery and a surprise bunker tucked into the hill, just behind the Mosque! Albania is known for their many bunkers.
After the tour, we were welcomed to a little market next door, where we were treated to some good old fashioned Albanian hospitality. Truly a delightful adventure, with many beautiful photos to look back upon. And, if you love to explore ancient religious buildings, you will love this one! It is simply magnificent.
