Albanian Adventure of a Russian Tourist – Ancient Butrint & Ksamil

A special guest blog, of a visit to Ancient Butrint & Ksamil.

Ancient Butrint. A place whose history stretches over several epochs. Butrint at one time was Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, Venetian and Ottoman. For many centuries, this place has acquired all the new features of different nations and cultures, whether it be fortifications and defenses, or works of art, statues and mosaics. The guide told in detail how everything was arranged here, for what certain facilities, about culture and life. He also told us about wonderful turtles, which are also unique to this place – there are no such places anywhere else.

After a rich historical excursion to Butrint, we arrived in a relaxing Ksamil. A small, thriving town located to the south of Saranda, with many sandy beaches on its coastline. We chose one of the beaches, recommended by our guide – very clean, good sunbeds and close to the islands. Not holding back, I nevertheless floated to one of them. Sun, sand and azure sea. Just what the doctor ordered.
